Properly Installed Lally Columns
By Brian Ki, P.E.
Check out the new lally column and concrete footing installed in a recent basement renovation we helped engineer. It doesn’t look like much from the surface but, too many times, we’ve seen this simple installation performed wrong. If you see your contractor installing adjustable jack posts instead of lally columns (hollow steel tube filled with concrete) or locating posts on the bare slab without a deeper concrete footing, you may want to have an engineer get involved. Don’t be hesitant to give Team Engineering a call!
