Engineer-Contractor Collaboration
By Administrator
An important project aspect that can often be overlooked is the collaboration between the engineer and contractor, which can benefit both parties involved and the client. In many projects, there are custom details that should be discussed to ensure that the contractor has a full understanding of the concept before implementing it. There are also many instances where there could be multiple ways to approach a project, so it is important for the engineer to understand what is most cost-effective and workable for the contractors. An example includes deciding whether a building should be renovated or demolished. Team Engineering has often set up a meeting between the engineer, contractor, and client. We have found this approach to be very effective. It is a nice introduction and turnover of the project to the contractor that helps get everyone on the same page. These meetings also open up the line of communication so if there is a question during construction the contractor can directly ask the designer and prevent any mix-ups.
