Omnium Brewery in Nashua NH

By Nate Rogers, E.I.T.

We have had the pleasure of working with Winter Holben on the design of the new Omnium brewery in Nashua, NH. The brewery will occupy an existing 2-story commercial building and will feature a restaurant area, retail space, multipurpose event space, axe throwing lanes, an arcade, and cold storage.

We were initially involved in the project to provide a structural opinion on the capacity of the second-floor framing. We discovered that the existing second floor would be unable to support the large brewing tanks and equipment without major improvements. Winter Holben was able to relocate the brewing equipment to the first floor and thus avoided the cost of a huge structural modifications.

We were then engaged to design the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. We worked closely with Winter Holben and the Owner to design a highly economical mechanical system that wouldn’t interfere with the carefully crafted aesthetics. A big part of our effort was meeting the heating, cooling, and ventilation requirements and designing systems that would work for such a wide variety of spaces. The 360-degree bar and large commercial kitchen required a sizeable and robust hot water system. Other challenges included providing ventilation to the large internal event spaces while minimizing visible duct work. Using natural gas to provide most of the heating and hot water helped keep the electrical demand down.

At the end of the day, we want to design something practical and economical; we want it to get built. Hope to enjoy a beer at Omnium soon!
