Pickleball and Pottery Fun Day

By Jeff Trovato, E.I.T.

For our quarterly Team Fun Day last fall, we continued the tradition of trying new activities. Our business and financial advisor is an avid Pickleball player and enjoys spreading the fun and flare of this game with all his peers. Well, on this beautiful, sunny day in November the Team had no choice but to participate in a game that is best described as a combination of tennis and ping pong. The game is played on a court similar to a tennis court, but with different dimensions and boundary lines.

We were surprised to be joined by a local pickleball coach/trainer Andi. We were set up in pairs and coached through basic drills and rules before playing  actual matches for a few hours. It was chilly to start but most of us were down to just t-shirts by the end of the morning! Everyone had a great time playing a new sport that is taking off all over the world.

After enjoying a lunch at Murphy’s Taproom, we made our way to Studio 550 on Elm Street in Manchester for an afternoon of pottery making. Founder and instructor Monica Leap instructed us on the basics of wheel thrown pottery while her colleague, Emma, showed us how to construct a slab mug. We spent a few hours at the studio, and everyone came away with at least one piece to take home after kiln firing. We even had enough time for Monica and Emma to test their skills as we challenged them to create a pickleball paddle inspired vase. They did not disappoint! We highly recommend Studio 550 to tap into your artistic side!
