Simpson Conference
By Olivia Caron, E.I.T.
Two of our Engineers in Training, Morgan, and Olivia attended a conference hosted by Simpson Strong-Tie that focused on continuous load path connections. This presentation broke down the possible connection details at each point, starting at the rafter to top plate, then shear walls and braced walls, and ending with the sill plate to foundation. The presentation highlighted many real-life instances, such as tornadoes, as well as lab experiments to demonstrate the difference in damage between a building that is properly constructed with connections versus one that is not. In many cases, the home that was not properly constructed was a total loss, while the properly constructed home sustained repairable damage. Team Engineering makes sure to provide construction details that are up to par with Simpson’s as well as the requirements of the IRC and IBC.
