Project Description

A New Hampshire staple, the owners of Ben’s Sugar Shack came to us looking to expand from a literal “shack” into a formal food production facility. In addition, an attached market was designed to bring local goods to the community.

Ben’s construction goals were to stick to wood framed components wherever possible. To do so, a combination of piggy-back trusses,

I-joist rafters, and structural ridges were designed to clear span the building, including the front evaporator and tank rooms. Conventional framing was designed for the porch entry. With very tall exterior walls, custom plywood and CMU shear walls were designed to resist lateral forces. All structures were founded on cast-in-place concrete foundations with an interior slab-on-grade.

As a true NH family business, Ben and his family constructed the facility themselves. Although it is exponentially bigger than the original shack, Ben’s already dreaming of more space and looking to expand soon.
