Fabric Canopy Structure Foundations
By Dan Martel, P.E.
We enjoyed the challenge of designing the concrete foundations for an arched canopy structure for a nearby recycling facility. The facility will use heavy equipment, including dump trucks and loaders, to transport materials like dredged soils onto the concrete pad. We designed and detailed mixing bins for the material to be sorted before being transported for recycling. Our design included spread footings and walls to support a massive, modular canopy structure designed and fabricated by Big Top – it clear spans more than 100 feet! Steel tube trusses support a fabric canopy that keeps the materials dry while sorting.
