MT. MONADNOCK RENOVATION

By Brian Ki, P.E.

This home is an original Royal Barry Wills design sited on the outskirts of Mount Monadnock. True to his style from the mid 1900’s, it embodied the Cape Cod Revival style he is famous for. Included in that were small boxed-in rooms with low ceilings associated with its age.

Christopher J Barry Architect was hired to bring a contemporary facelift to the home. His primary goal was to maximize the stunning mountain views, create the feeling of larger spaces, and improve the entry functions. To do this, he raised the ceiling heights, added a new high ceiling living room addition, positioned six new dormers along the existing saltbox roof, expanded the second-floor livable space, and added large windows along the rear of the home.

Team Engineering was brought in to generate the structural design. Our design included steel moment frames, new LVL structural ridges, and various roof and floor framing improvements to bring the structure up to modern code. A great team effort and another amazing building!
